About St. Croix Happenings

Welcome to the website for St. Croix Happenings, THE site for the POSITIVE/NON-POLITICAL events happening on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. St. Croix Happenings was originally created in May, 2004 to fill a void that existed for a comprehensive Community Calendar. Too many times important fund-raising events would end up getting scheduled on the same night, while the rest of the month would be relatively free of major events. Now the sponsors and the community have a way of checking the calendars for a full year to see what is scheduled when planning an event date. The calendar listings are open to any organization or business, as long as it is non-political in format.

If you have not yet listed your event with us, please do so as soon as possible so that others can plan their events around yours. The purpose of this site is to assist event planners in avoiding some of the many overlapping major events that happen, especially on weekends. The 2009-2010 DRAFT Master Calendar has been posted on the Community Calendar Page. The daily special events listings have not yet been posted for this Master Calendar as I'm still awaiting final confirmation of some of the dates, times, etc. for the basic listings on the Master Calendar. I will be working on these postings over the next few weeks, so it is important for each non-profit to get their up-to-date info to me for their listings.

Non-profit calendar schedules run from August 1-July 31 for each event year. Calendar listings will normally be updated on Sunday evenings, so please have your listing posted by at least two weeks before your event. ALL EVENT LISTINGS ARE FREE IN THE ONLINE CALENDAR. The listing includes the date, time, event details, location, and contact info. To have a hyperlink to an email or website, there is a flat $84/year fee, no matter how many listings you might have for the year.

With the reformating of the website last year, the Calendar Page took on a new look. The Daily calendars now include only the special events. Daily or weekly events that last throughout the year are now listed under a "Regular Events" listing. Examples would be the Rotary & Masonic Lodge meetings and the swim and Pilates sessions. There is also a link to a .pdf format of the Master Non-Profit Calendar. You will still click on the day of the month that you want to view the special event listings and the link will take you directly to that day's event listings. If there is no hyperlink, then there are no events listed for that date.

Each year, non-profit organizations are invited to attend a calendar planning session that is held at 6:00 pm on the 4th Wednesday in May at the Country Day School Library. Please have a representative from your non-profit organization attend these meetings each year and submit your calendar to me no later than the 15th of May so that I can get the draft calendar ready for that meeting. The purpose of this meeting is for ALL non-profits to compare their calendars to see what conflicts may exist in major event scheduling and to try to resolve the conflicts for the benefit of all organizations. The less conflict on dates, the more chance of success for your event(s).

For all other visitors to the site, please check the site on a regular basis to be informed of the many events that happen daily on St. Croix. You will find that there is a wealth of events for you to attend, from fund-raisers to weekly arts and entertainment, to civic organization meetings, to exercise classes, to school functions, and so much more.

All St. Croix Happenings print issues from Vol. 1, Issue 1 to the last print issue, Vol. 4, Issue 8 are now archived for you to read online in .pdf format. Click on the monthly cover on the Archive Page and it will take you to the pages of that issue.  If you don't have Acrobat Reader, you can click on the link and download the free software to read the publication.

Crossword puzzles can be found on the Crossword Puzzle Page and the Solutions will be added to the top of the Crosswords Solutions Page each month and will be archived indefinitely.

Because of changes made in the host server last year, my Image_lib folder that contained all of my graphics had to be renamed and I'm still trying to complete the re-linking of all photos and graphics on the 39 pages of this website. Please bear with me while I make those changes. Once I have all of the corrections made, then I can start to add and update the editorial content that has always been a part of St. Croix Happenings. Also, this site will continue as a service to the island of St. Croix and the rest of the world as I prepare to relocate my personal and business location to another part of the world (where I can survive on my Social Security.)

Businesses that want to help support the cost of maintaining this site can visit the Web Advertising/Rates page for more information on my very reasonable ad rates. Payments for ads are on an annual payment basis.
