Finnegan's Wake Traditional Irish Band

Three years ago, following a trip to Ireland, Jerry and Sue Enos introduced St. Croix to Finnegan’s Wake, a Traditional Irish Band that was formed at Enos' request. Since their first visit in 2004, the group has returned each year to entertain Irish music lovers. They promised their Crucian fans at the end of their 2005 tour that they would produce a CD and they kept that promise during their 2006 tour.

Recording the new CD to be first released here on St. Croix (St. Croix Tour 2006) has given the lads an opportunity to choose their favorite ballads and tunes and produce a disc which they are proud of. The CD contains a beautiful balance of fast tunes and soothing melodies. It sold quite well during the 2006 tour and is still available locally by contacting St. Croix Happenings. The CD retails for $15.00. In addition to recording their first CD, each of the band members have been quite busy between the 2005 and 2006 tours.

The boys are looking forward to returning to Paradise in 2007 and hope that everyone on St. Croix will attend at least one of their dates, as well as enjoy the music on their first CD

Brendan Monaghan performed with Phil Coulter in ten shows televised for RTE which included a host of stars from the eighties. He has just returned from the Panama Canal where he backed Peter Corry on guitar as well as pipes and whistles. Brendan has continued to work s a session musician and recorded with Aoife Naoire, Malachi Cush, Phil Coulter, and Peter Corry to name but a few. Children from County Tyrone to County Down continue to benefit from the musical tuition Brendan provides in schools when he’s not on tour. For Mr. Monaghan, there are simply not enough hours in the Day!

Despite his busy banking job, Canice has managed to make time to work on the new Finnegan’s Wake CD, tour with the band all over the country, perform at weddings and hypnotize ladies with his sweet voice. His keyboard skills have been featured in two CD’s recorded by local artists like Ann Breen and Mary McKenna. Canice recently played with Peter Corry at a charity concert to raise funds for tsunami victims and performed with Malachi Cush during his country music tour.

Billy Allen has been in great demand since returning from St. Croix last year. Bill has toured with the band, as well as being involved in recording projects with other traditional groups. Bill features on several tunes recorded on the Finnegan’s Wake CD and some of the new rhythms he’s been experimenting with have added a new dimension to the finished product. Bill recently had the pleasure of performing with Peter Corry and Mal Cush in a charity fundraising event and has enjoyed the sessions played during the wedding gigs.

While his job as Principal of Edendork Primary School in County Tyrone doesn’t permit him to travel as much as the other band members, Sean McMorrow has played session guitar with Peter McDermot, Barry Lynch and Paul Gardner as well as touring with Finnegan’s Wake. He’s delighted with the new CD and feels it reflects the band’s versatility. Like the other guys, Sean was involved in several charity events which featured the best of Irish talent. Sean said on behalf of the band, “It’s wonderful to play a part in generating funds for organizations that impact on the lives of those in need.”
